Community Centre News

We are looking forward to the start of Autumn Term classes in the week beginning Mon 17 September and we have a new Community Centre Committee chairman: Jeremy Whitton Spriggs, who is one of St Mark’s church wardens.

Our CC booklet What’s On in Newnham Autumn Term has been published and distributed throughout Newnham and beyond. It contains the autumn time table as well as dates and lists of local activities and services with contacts. Pick up a copy from the church or local shops if you have not received one. Please note that there are some changes and corrections in What’s On affecting U3A Bridge which are listed at the end of this news page.

A detailed survey undertaken for the City Council in May 2018 showed that in the previous twelve months the Community Centre halls were in use for 2100 hrs, of which 1800 were regular bookings for classes and activities and 300 for casual hire (mainly children’s parties). For over a third of our activities the halls are provided without charge or at a reduced rate, including all our regular classes and activities for young children.

As well as continuing with all our past classes next term, we are offering two new classes: Health QiGong and Creative Writing for everyone. We are also hoping to offer an Italian conversation class again in the spring term, when one of our Yoga teachers Helen Holland will be back after her maternity break. Details of the new classes are in What’s On in Newnham together with contact details for all the tutors. And class organisers.

Changes and corrections to Autumn Term timetable

U3A Bridge starts w/b 8 October; the Monday class will be taken by Jane Plows, the Tuesday Class is Duplicate Bridge and the Thursday class for Absolute Beginners. The Monday information has just reached us, but we apologise for the other corrections.
